Visit to Manchester Gallery 26.0106

We had a most entertaining visit to Manchester Gallery last Thursday and had the opportunity to view and in most instances tough the various artists' work.

Two of the works were created from natural pebbles, thistles, sheeps' wool, hollow wood and twiggs. They were really pleasing to the eye and attractive.

Another artist had pressed flower petals in layers of glass in a press and created a three dimentional flower. Quite amazing to think of how long it must have taken to select and match each progression of colour.

There was a beautifully embroidered tapestry on the wall and also a poster created entirely from plastic bags which read "Been shopping".

Another artist had created a tower which reached the ceiling, by folding paper. There were also another two very attractive bowls, created in the same way. Quite amazing.

There was a display of modern small items of furniture. One of these was a wrought iron bench coloured bright orange. The artist had cut out the shapes of chairs, an amazing variety and there were some cut outs beside the bench which helped me to identify the shapes in the bench.

Another artist he created pictures from multi coloured pieces of plastic. All re-cycled.

The group then transferred to the Athenean Room in the old part of the building. This had been restored to it's original glory, but unfortunately I could not see the mouldings on the ceiling.

Here we listened the the artist's description of their work and were also able to touch their exhibits.

There was glass, wood, metal and another which I did not get to see as we had run out of time.

We then had a very welcome cup of tea in the education room before being turfed by the next school group.
