Google maps

Following on from some questions from Bu-cket, here are a few notes about google maps...

To get to google maps for the uk either:

• type in the web address maps.google.co.uk, and press enter.
• go to the main google page (www.google.co.uk), and then click on the maps link which is above the search edit box.

Map of a single location

If you want the map surrounding a single location, just type the post code into the edit box at the top of the page, and press enter. To zoom and pan around:

• You can zoom in and out using the mouse's scroll wheel.
• You can also zoom using the keyboard: first left-click somewhere in the map, and then use the plus and minus keys on the numeric keypad.
• The easiest way to pan is to hold the left mouse button down and drag.

To print out the map:

• Click on the print link which is just above the map, near the right hand edge of the page
• A new window opens containing just the map, and then a print dialog opens. If needed, change any settings in the dialog, and then press enter to print.
• Close the window which contains just the map.

Directions between two locations

To get directions for going between two locations, just type "postcode 1" to "postcode 2" into the edit box, and press enter.

To print out these directions, along with a map which gives an overview of the route:

• Click the print button just above the map, and towards the right hand side of the page.
• A new window opens containing the directions, and some small maps, and then a print dialog box opens. Press ESC to close this dialog.
• At the top right of the new window, put a tick in the check box "Show original map view", and then click the print link just to the right.
• A print dialog opens. If needed, make any changes to the settings, and then press ENTER to print.
• Finally close the new window.
