Default font and font size in Word

When Microsoft Word is installed, the values the default font and font size are set to Times New Roman 12pt. To change these:
  1. From the Format menu, select Font.
  2. In the Font dialog box, make any changes you want to the font and font size.
  3. At the bottom-left hand corner of the dialog box click the default button.
  4. A message box appears, asking you whether you want to change the default font. Click Yes.

In my not very humble opinion, Times New Roman is not very readable. It was designed for use in newspaper columns, and so the letters are narrow. Here are some suggestions for an alternative:

  • For a serif font ( one that has little feet at the end of strokes ), try Georgia and Century Schoolbook.
  • For a sans-serif font ( without little feet ), try Arial and Verdana.
