Visit to Sight Village

On Wednesday 18th July 2007 a coach left Henshaws with 45people onboard for a viset to Sight Village. This event is the premier exhibition for blind and partiallly-sighted people in the UK. QAC Sight Village is organised annually by Queen Aoexandra College, they are a National College for People with Visual Impaiement and other Disabilities, it is based in Birmingham.

About 75 exhibitors were showing technology, equipment and services for people with visual impairment. Each year this show has got larger and this year must be the best they have ever staged. The range items was almost beyond belief On shw was audio equipment, braille, CCTV's/magnification, computers, software, peripherals, screen readers and daily living equipment. There was also education and training, information services, mobility aids, low vision aes, library services and leisure and information services. With so much on show it neant that that one had to be very selective to ensnsure that you took in your main interests.

I was greatly impressed with the way the staff on the stands acted to the enquiries they were getting from the visitors, it was always in a most friendly and helpful manner, no pushy sales chatter just helpful information. The cafe served good food and drinks with no real queing.

So with the carrier bags that we were given when we first entered the building now heavy with all the leaflets of all the things we would have liked to have bought on our way around the show
we returned to Manchester, tired but eager to get reading all the enformation we had collected.
Thank you for a great day out.

Tiger went too! I was on my best behaviour, and didn't cause too many problems for the organisers.
