Manchester Gallery visit 9/11/06

Georgina von Etzdorf played a very important role in the textile industry when she set up a company in her parent's barn in Salisbury. They experimented with different nethods of printing on silk, perspex and other materials with the use of paints a nd the use of lasers, and all sorts of means of drying their work.

Ann Hornsby gave us a wonderful description of some of the exhibits and also a painting of the work in progress in the barn in the early days

One of the curators, Meg, handed us a selection of beautiful fabrics to examine and Miles Lambrt described the formation and progress of the company which, at one period, had two shops in Kensington, London.

This particular exhibition housed the archives of the Company and there were some garments, scarves and corsages on display.

We ended our visit with a welcome cup of tea in the education suite and thank the Gallery staff for looking after us so well yet again.

Many thanks Mary and we look forward to our next trip with Henshaws.
