VE-day 65yeare ago.

Of course I didn't forget the 8th May 1945, how could I. Most of yesterday was spent recalling what I was doing that day and remembering old friends and wondering how they were or what had happened to them. Some I know have crossed the bar, many I just cannot remember their names now, but I have never really forgot them. I do know that they were all good young men and great comrades.
On that day we sailed to do a job that we had trained for and should have attempted several months earlier, We were destined to take back the Channel Islands. They were the only part of Britain to be occupied by German forces and had been since May 1940. It had been decided that we would cause too much damage to the people that we were attempting to help. When the cancellation was made it was helped has a Swedish ship was arranged to deliver Red Cross food parcels for the population of the islands. There they were occupied by 35,000 troops on the most heavyley fortified islands in the world, cut off and no chance of any rescue.Their defenses were so strong because Hitler thought that he had is hands on apart of Britain. The fleet of ships,Lst's and LCt's arrived in the Rhodes off Guernsney at dawn of this day May9th 1945l
What happened in the next hours is a story for another day.
